About Femto LASIK Surgery

Femto LASIK is a variation of standard LASIK surgery in which the initial corneal flap is created using a femtosecond laser instead of a handheld mechanical blade, or microkeratome, allowing for a more precise, uniform, and customizable flap in terms of thickness, diameter, and shape. After the femtosecond laser creates and lifts the corneal flap, the procedure continues as with traditional LASIK, using an excimer laser to reshape the underlying corneal tissue and correct the patient's specific refractive error, whether nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, before the flap is repositioned to heal naturally. Because the laser-created flap tends to be more consistent than a blade-cut one, this bladeless approach is often associated with a somewhat lower risk of certain flap-related complications and may be recommended for patients with corneas that make a mechanical microkeratome less suitable. As with standard LASIK, candidacy depends on stable vision, adequate corneal thickness, and a comprehensive pre-operative eye examination. Recovery is generally quick, with noticeable visual improvement within a day and full stabilization over the following weeks. Many eye care centers in India offer Femto LASIK as their standard bladeless option, using femtosecond laser platforms alongside detailed corneal topography for pre-surgical planning.
