Contoura Vision, often referred to as topography-guided LASIK, is an advanced form of laser vision correction that uses detailed mapping of the cornea's surface, capturing thousands of unique data points, to guide the excimer laser in correcting not only a patient's glasses prescription but also microscopic surface irregularities specific to their eye. This individualized approach differs from conventional LASIK, which applies a more standardized correction pattern, and is intended to produce a smoother corneal surface that may improve contrast sensitivity and reduce visual disturbances such as glare or halos, particularly at night. The surgical process itself follows a similar sequence to standard LASIK, with a corneal flap created using a blade or femtosecond laser, followed by laser reshaping of the underlying tissue guided by the topographic map, and the flap repositioned to heal naturally. Candidates are generally patients with stable refractive errors, adequate corneal thickness, and, in some cases, irregular astigmatism that might not respond as well to conventional laser correction. As with other forms of LASIK, recovery is typically rapid. Eye hospitals in India offering Contoura Vision use specialized topography systems to build each patient's corneal map, allowing the treatment plan to be tailored before surgery is performed.
