About Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical body-contouring procedure that removes localized pockets of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise, from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, or chin. Through small incisions, the surgeon inserts a thin cannula connected to a suction device and moves it through the fat layer to break up and remove fat cells, with techniques such as tumescent, ultrasound-assisted, or laser-assisted liposuction used to ease fat removal and support skin contraction. The procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the area and extent of treatment, and typically takes one to three hours. Good candidates are people close to their target weight with good skin elasticity and realistic expectations, since liposuction is a contouring procedure rather than a weight-loss treatment. Recovery involves swelling, bruising, and wearing a compression garment for several weeks, with most patients returning to light activity within a week and final contour visible over three to six months as swelling resolves. Patients traveling to India for liposuction typically plan a stay of about ten days to allow for garment fitting, an early follow-up, and monitoring of initial healing.
