Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes or repositions excess skin, muscle, and fat around the upper or lower eyelids to address hooding, puffiness, or under-eye bags. In upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes an incision along the natural crease to remove excess tissue; in lower eyelid surgery, the incision may be placed just below the lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach) to avoid a visible scar. The procedure is typically done under local anesthesia with sedation and takes one to two hours depending on whether one or both eyelids are treated. Candidates include people whose upper eyelid skin obstructs vision, those bothered by tired-looking or puffy eyes, and patients seeking a more alert appearance. Recovery involves swelling and bruising for one to two weeks, with sutures removed within about a week and most patients comfortable in public within ten to fourteen days using makeup or sunglasses. Because eyelid tissue heals relatively quickly but still needs a suture check and progress review, patients traveling to India for blepharoplasty commonly plan a stay of ten days to two weeks to cover the procedure and early follow-up.
