A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes breasts that have sagged due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight change by removing excess skin and repositioning the remaining breast tissue and nipple-areola complex higher on the chest. Depending on the degree of sagging, the surgeon may use a shorter incision around the areola or a longer anchor-shaped incision extending down to and along the breast fold. Unlike augmentation, a lift does not add volume, so patients wanting both a fuller and higher breast profile may combine mastopexy with implants in the same operation. The procedure is done under general anesthesia and typically takes two to three hours. Good candidates are patients with sagging breast tissue and adequate skin elasticity, in reasonably stable weight, since future pregnancy or significant weight change can affect results. Recovery involves swelling and restricted arm movement for one to two weeks, with most patients back to non-strenuous activity within that period and full exercise after four to six weeks. Patients traveling to India for a breast lift generally plan a stay of around two weeks to cover surgery and the follow-up visit for incision checks.
