Hair transplant surgery relocates hair follicles from a donor area, usually the back or sides of the scalp where hair growth is naturally resistant to thinning, to areas of visible balding. The two main techniques are follicular unit transplantation (FUT), where a strip of scalp is removed and divided into individual grafts, and follicular unit extraction (FUE), where follicles are harvested one at a time with a small punch tool, leaving minimal scarring. Grafts are placed into tiny recipient-site incisions following the natural angle and density of surrounding hair for a natural-looking result. The procedure is done under local anesthesia and, depending on the number of grafts required, takes roughly four to eight hours, sometimes spread across two sessions. Suitable candidates are men and women with pattern hair loss and adequate donor supply, assessed beforehand for the underlying cause of shedding. Transplanted hairs typically shed within weeks before regrowing gradually, with visible new growth over six to twelve months. Because the surgery itself involves modest downtime, patients traveling to India often plan a stay of about a week to allow the scalp to settle before flying home.
