Nasal polyp surgery removes soft, non-cancerous growths that develop in the lining of the nose or sinuses, which can cause nasal blockage, loss of smell, facial pressure, and recurrent sinus infections when large enough to obstruct airflow and drainage. Polyps are often linked to chronic inflammation, allergies, or asthma, and while small polyps may initially be managed with nasal steroid sprays, surgery is recommended when polyps are large or medical treatment has not adequately controlled symptoms. The procedure is usually performed endoscopically, using a thin camera passed through the nostrils to visualize and remove the polyps along with any associated sinus disease, without external cuts. It is typically done under general anesthesia and takes around thirty minutes to an hour, often combined with broader sinus surgery if the polyps involve multiple sinus cavities. Most patients go home the same day or after a short stay, with saline irrigation and follow-up steroid treatment used afterward to reduce the chance of polyps returning, since recurrence is common without ongoing management. India's ENT centers combine endoscopic polyp removal with allergy and sinus disease management, and international patients typically plan for about a week to cover surgery and an initial follow-up review.
