About Endometrial Cancer Treatment

Endometrial (uterine lining) cancer is one of the most treatable gynecologic cancers when caught early, and India's gynecologic oncology units offer comprehensive staging and surgery for women diagnosed at any stage. Initial workup includes transvaginal ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, and imaging to assess how far the disease has spread. The standard treatment is a total hysterectomy with removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries (salpingo-oophorectomy), usually performed laparoscopically or robotically to reduce blood loss, scarring, and recovery time compared with open surgery. Lymph node sampling or a sentinel lymph node biopsy is performed during the same operation to help determine whether further treatment is needed. Depending on the tumor grade and stage found at surgery, adjuvant radiation therapy (external beam or brachytherapy) or chemotherapy may be recommended to lower the risk of recurrence. For younger women wishing to preserve fertility with very early, low-grade disease, hormone-based non-surgical treatment may be an option after careful evaluation. Most patients undergoing minimally invasive hysterectomy are discharged within two to three days and resume normal activity within a few weeks.
