About Brain Stroke Management

Brain stroke management covers the urgent diagnosis and treatment of a stroke, which occurs either when a blood clot blocks an artery supplying the brain, known as an ischemic stroke, or when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and bleeds, known as a hemorrhagic stroke. Because brain tissue is highly time-sensitive to loss of blood supply, initial management focuses on rapid imaging, usually CT or MRI, to identify the stroke type and extent, followed by treatment such as clot-dissolving medication or mechanical thrombectomy, a catheter-based procedure to physically remove the clot, for ischemic strokes, or surgical or endovascular intervention to control bleeding and reduce pressure in hemorrhagic strokes. Patients are typically cared for in a dedicated stroke unit or neuro-intensive care setting where blood pressure, oxygen levels, and neurological status are closely monitored. Once the patient is stable, rehabilitation involving physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy becomes central to recovering lost function. India's larger hospitals maintain round-the-clock stroke response teams and neuro-critical care units, which matters for both resident and travelling patients who need this care delivered within a narrow treatment window.
