About Peyronie's Disease Treatment

Peyronie's disease treatment addresses an acquired condition in which fibrous scar tissue, called plaque, forms within the layer surrounding the erectile tissue of the penis, causing curvature, indentation, or narrowing during erection that can be associated with pain, particularly in the earlier, active phase of the condition. Diagnosis is based on clinical examination, patient-reported curvature, and sometimes ultrasound imaging to assess plaque location and size, as well as blood flow. In the early, active phase, when curvature is still changing and pain is present, treatment may involve oral medications, injectable agents such as collagenase directly into the plaque, or traction and vacuum therapy aimed at limiting progression. Once the condition has stabilized, usually after twelve months or more, and curvature significantly affects sexual function, surgical correction may be recommended, ranging from plication procedures that shorten the longer, unaffected side of the penis to plaque incision or excision with grafting for more severe curvature, chosen based on the degree and complexity of the deformity. These procedures are performed under general or spinal anesthesia. Indian andrology and urology centers with specific experience in penile reconstructive surgery offer the full range of these treatment options, with the surgical approach tailored to each patient's specific anatomy and functional goals.
