Zygomatic Implants

عن Zygomatic Implants

Zygomatic implants are unusually long titanium implants, often 30 to 50 millimeters, anchored not in the upper jawbone but in the zygomatic bone, or cheekbone, which is denser and less prone to the resorption that frequently affects the upper jaw after long-term tooth loss. They are used for patients with severe upper jaw bone loss who are not candidates for conventional implants and who would otherwise require extensive bone grafting procedures before any implant could be placed. During surgery, the implant is inserted at an angle that passes through the upper jaw and engages the cheekbone, providing a stable anchor point for a fixed prosthesis, in many cases allowing a full-arch temporary bridge to be attached soon after surgery. This technique can eliminate the months-long grafting and healing process that would otherwise be needed, making it an option for patients seeking a faster path to a fixed restoration despite significant bone deficiency. Because zygomatic implant placement requires specialized surgical training and imaging, it is typically performed by experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Indian centers offering this procedure generally use 3D cone-beam imaging for precise surgical planning given the anatomical complexity involved.
